The Latest On Chances For Snow Tonight/Tomorrow

Still expecting to have a chance for measurable snow tonight into tomorrow morning as a cold front moves into the region, triggering first rain, and then snow behind it's passage.  Right now it looks like most of us will see 2 inches or less (mostly less), however stay tuned as this could change.  In Southern Illinois there are some areas which might see 2 inches or slightly more , so a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from around Carbondale, northward.

MAIN IMPACT: Could effect your  Thursday morning commute with slick roads.

After that we'll have a brief warmup, before another round of rain/snow mix is possible, beginning Sunday night and continuing through Monday with some models indicating it could bring another inch or two of snow. After that, colder air moves in, in earnest Sunday night, temperatures will DROP as MUCH COLDER moves in, and it'll be some of the coldest air we've seen in a while!

Updated Chances For Snow New Years Night Into Thursday

It looks like most of us could see 2 inches or less of snowfall through Thursday, as a cold front moves through the area New Year's night into Thursday morning.  In Southern Illinois, some areas could receive 2-3 inches.

After that, temperatures will really drop Thursday night, down to lows in the mid teens! Temperatures will begin rebounding, especially Saturday.

Chances for Snow Later This Week

We are looking for a chance of snow, and rain later this week: Wednesday night through Thursday will be the biggest chance in the short term.  We're not talking about the greatest of chances, certainly less than 2 inches for most of us (may 2 inches in Southern Illinois) but it's something to keep in mind as we head into the New Year Holiday!  We'll have another chance for rain and snow Saturday night and Sunday but high temperatures Sunday will be in the upper 30s.

For certain, we'll have COLD temperatures, with high termperatures Thursday and Friday at 30 degrees or LESS and overnight lows Thursday night falling to the mid-teens!!!

Will We Have A White Christmas?

Although it will certainly be on the cold side for ost of this week, we're NOTlooking at a White Christmas!  After highs in the mid 30s Monday and lows monday night in the upper teens, we'll be seing plenty of sunshine Christmas Eve (Tuesday) and Christmas Day (Wednesday).  There could be the slighest of chances of some light snow or flurries Christmas night but its a rather miniscule chance.

We're actually looking at a DRY week for the most part, which will be nice after the heavy rains over the weekend!

Heavy Rains/Severe Storms Possible Through Saturday Night

An approaching system is bringing two threats this weekend: Heavy rains, which could trigger flooding problems tonight through Saturday night, and the threat of severe storms Saturday afternoon and evening.

A flash flood watch has been issued through Saturday night because of the possibility of rainfall totals in excess of 4 inches on ground which is already saturated due to recent snow and ice.

The threat of severe storms will be greatest to the south, with the most likely threats being damaging winds and possibly a few isolated tornadoes.  Stay abreast of the changing weather conditions as we go through the weekend.

After that we'll say goodbye to these mild temperatures and colder temperatures will return, but it DOESN'T look good for a white Christmas! Sorry!

A "Heat Wave" Coming Our Way?

After what we've had lately, this might seem like a "heat wave" as from mid-week through Friday, we'll see high temperatures in the 50s! As that cold front moves through we'll have a chance for rain but no snow, etc. Overnight lows through the weekend will cool back down a little, too, back to the 30s.

Winter Weather Today-Tonight Night

Look's like the main chance for any wintry precip will be limited to North of the Ohio River today and tonight as temperatures have warmed to near 40 for the southern half of the region and shouldn't fall much tonight.  In fact in many areas, temperatures could fall a little and then slowly rise overnight.

North of the southern tier of counties in Southern Illinois and SE Missouri though, is a little trickier.  A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY is in effect through noon Saturday. Not much in the way of additional accumulations are expected though until you get around Carbondale and northward, where 1-4 inches of snow/sleet could fall..

Across the entire area, be aware of changing weather conditions especially tonight, when mixed precipitation could affect travel.
