New Tornado Watch until 4 AM

We have a new Tornado Watch until 4AM for all of Western KY and NW Tennessee, along with SE Missouri, including the Bootheel and extreme S Illinois.  We have 2 lines of storms we're watching. One moving in right now, and another squall line further to the west.

Threats include high winds, large hail and possible tornadoes. In fact, we've already had several tornado WARININGS with these storms.  Stay abreast of the latest weather information regarding these storms!

If severe weather approaches, it's best to seek shelter in a storm shelter or basement.  If neither are available, go to the most interior room in your house and cover your head.

Chance of Severe Storms Today Through Friday

Still looking at a slight risk for strong to severe storms especially tonight into Friday for portions of the region.  The main threats will be hail and winds. The good news for our region is that the heavier storms are expected to arrive in this area overnight, when the conditions favorable to severe storm development are diminished.

We could also see some rainfall amounts of more than 1.5 inches before the showers and storms move out Friday night, so watch out for that!

Weekend Forecast!

What a beautiful day Friday! Highs in the low 70s for most of us with plenty of sunshine! Should see a small chance of showers Friday night though, and cooler air moving in on Saturday behind a cold front, dropping our highs about 10 degrees or so, to the upper 50s to near 60.  We'll have another chance for showers Saturday night, followed by cooler air on Sunday again, with highs dropping  to the upper 40s to near 50.

UPDATE: Possible Wintry Mix Today-Tonight

Still not thinking the anticipated wintry mix today into tonight will amount to much, BUT, there could be a few impacts of travel tonight and for the Monday morning commute to be concerned with: namely black ice in the wake of all this precipitation, and cold air moving in.

Snowfall amounts should be minimal and limited to north of the Ohio River.

Spring finally arrives this week, with temperatures knocking on the door of the 70s!  There IS a slight chance of a little snow, but don't freak out. There might be a few flakes but no problems!

The warming trend kicks into high gear Monday and Tuesday with temperatures in the 60s and maybe even 70s for Tuesday!
Tuesday afternoon at 4PM
Tuesday night, a system brings us a chance for showers mostly, but as it exits on Wednesday, we could see a few snowflakes. No problems expected for us, though! We'll be right back in the 40s to near 50 for highs on Wednesday.
Wednesday at 1AM in the morning

Wednesday morning at 7AM

Measurable snowfall WELL to our north Wednesday
After that, it's 50s and 60s for high temperatures through the weekend, with lows in the 30s and 40s! YEAH!!!!

Bitter Cold Followed by a Warm Up

We'll start gradually warming up after a very cold night tonight.  Watch out for overnight lows in the single digits tonight.  Tomorrow we could see high temperatures edge up to around the freezing mark (32), and then we'll be near 40 for Wednesday, and in the 50s Friday through the weekend.

We could have a chance of some rain or snow on Wednesday night into Thursday, but even if it does, it shouldn't be a problem.

Another chance for rain arrives Saturday and Saturday night.

In the meantime, watch out for tonight and please remember to take precautions for our pets!
6AM Temperatures Tuesday morning between 0 and 10 degrees

Snow/Sleet Totals Going UP, Ice Totals Trending DOWN

We're under a WINTER STORM WARNING from Sunday morning through Monday morning.  Northwest Tennessee is under a Winter Storm Warning and for Monday, a Wind Chill Advisory.

There is a lot of precipitation still on the way, however it's changing over to all sleet and snow faster than originally thought. Snow totals could go HIGHER: 6-10" for Western Kentucky. That's right.

The great part about this is we aren't getting nearly the freezing rain, we originally thought.  The bad part is that with less freezing rain, snowfall projections skyrocket.   Especially as low pressure is on a little further southward track, pushing the heavy snow into OUR neck of the woods.

Keep in mind, following the 2009 ice storm, the infrastructure is stronger.  It should be.  It was almost completely rebuilt!  Also, a lot of the trees which fell on power lines in 2009 and caused power outages are now GONE, so even if it WERE 2009 all over again, the power outages wouldn't be as bad, even though we DO expect some! In this event, the outages could range from a few hours to a day or so, though, instead of weeks!

After the snow stops, the COLD will remain, with arctic air bringing us COLD temperatures with lows in the single digits Monday night and teens Tuesday night and highs in the 20s.  Highs return to the 40s by Thursday and the 50s by Friday.
Tuesday morning, we should wake up to temperatures in the single digits, between 5 and 10 degrees above zero.

Stay with us for the latest information and forecast updates on this system!  You'll want to be prepared for difficult travel and possible power outages!  Remember, when the power's out, you can still hear our forecasts and live reports on Newstalk 94.7, 95.5, 570AM and 1320AM, along with The Mix 94.7 and Willie 102.1.
