Changes In The Outlook For Potential Winter Storm Next Week

We've been hearing a lot about what might happen Tuesday into Wednesday, but it looks like our best chance for snow might be Sunday night into Monday morning. We're not talking about much though although there's still some uncertainty.  Two of the main forecasting models are pointing toward around 2 inches possible Sunday night, but right now, it appears it might be well overdone, with a more likely chance of an inch or less, especially around the KenTenn area.

The latest data for  NEXT WEEK appears to indicate ice will be more of a concern than snow, and the ice should mostly be limited to portions of Southern Illinois and not so much Western Kentucky.  It looks like the temperatures will keep most of us in a mostly rain event with a chance for some freezing rain.  Problems from freezing rain appear to mostly be to our north, BUT things could change, so we'll keep watching and updating!

In the meantime, beware the snowmaggedon hype on the social media.  I love social media, but in some ways it has replaced the beauty shop and barber shop if you know what I mean!

UPDATE: Potential for Snowfall Next Week

While we still don't know exactly how much we'll get of what next week (Tue-Wed), we DO know we're going to get a LOT of PRECIPITATION.

There's going to be a lot of moisture available.  Liquid wise, it could be up to 2 inches, but in this event, Monday night through Wednesday, it could be in several forms.  Rain of course, and then also in freezing rain, sleet and snow.  If a lot of that comes in snow it could be a very heavy snow of many inches BUT, we know part of it IS going to be rain.  How much in this event?  Still early to tell.

That means we could get a huge snowfall, OR we could be a lot of rain and now much snow.  We could also see a lot of this precipitation as ice and rain or....  well you get it.

The main thing is to stay abreast of the situation and be prepared.  We'll know a lot more about what's going to happen as we get closer!

Warming Up. Potential Snow Event Next Week!

Great news in that we are WARMING UP for the next few days and in fact, we may be done with the EXTREME COLD for the winter.

Now the potentially bad news!  We COULD be looking at a big snow/rain event Tuesday-Wednesday.  We're surely looking at least for a lot of precipitation.  What form? We'll study more closely and let you know what we know when we know it, although it's a LONG way off and things could certainly change!

After COLD Stretch, Warmer Weather On The Way!

After another frigid night tonight, a COLD Tuesday with highs in the teens, and another VERY COLD night, Tuesday, we should be turning the corner toward warmer weather.  Now we're not talking about balmy temperatures in the 70s, BUT we're talking about saying goodbye to lows in the low single digits and highs in the teens, possibly for the rest of the winter season!

The normal high temperatures this time of year are in the mid 40s with the lows in the 20s and it looks like we'll be getting closer to that.  It just might feel like a heat wave after what we've been through!

MORE Polar Air Headed Our Way!

In the "not so good news" department, MORE frigid polar air is headed our way to start the week.  A strong cold front sweeps in Sunday night.  Highs Monday only around 20 and lows Monday night will be close to ZERO with some of us dipping BELOW ZERO.  Once again we are also looking a dangerous wind chills.  Tuesday, highs will only be in the teens, with lows Tuesday night, once again dropping to the low single digits and possibly zero.

Along the way, there's a slight chance of snow to our northeast Sunday night, and again toward the end of the week, but the main concern will certainly be the COLD and not the snow.

Beginning Wednesday, temperatures will start moderating as we head toward the weekend, and by the weekend, temperatures will be closer to average for this time of year, with highs in the 40s and lows in the 20s.
