Chance of Severe Storms, Then Fourth Of July Weekend!

We'll have another hot and humid one today,  with heat index readings close to 100. Meanwhile an approaching front will bring a chance of showers and storms, and some storms could become severe. High winds and large hail are the biggest threat with these storms.

After the front clears, cooler and less humid air moves in late week and through the 4th of July weekend!  YAY!!!

You can hear my forecasts and live reports on Newstalk 94.7FM, 95.5FM, 570AM and 1320AM, along with The Mix 94.7FM and Willie 102.1FM.

A Break Wednesday, Then Showers and Storms Return

A little cooler and less humid with that front to our south Wednesday, but the front will start easing northward again, and increasing our chances for showers and storms for Thursday and Friday. After that, high pressure begins taking over again and minimizing our chances for showers Sunday into mid-week, next week. High temperatures will also return to the 90s at that point.

Rain Chances and Heat in the Week Ahead.

It will feel a lot more like summertime this week, and we head into a pattern which is more like what we see in typical summer weather mode. With high pressure to our south and east, we'll have a nice southerly flow bringing up plenty of warmth and humidity. For most of the week, we'll have high temperatures in the 90s or close to it.  In fact, on Tuesday and Wednesday, we could have heat index readings near 100!

It should also be drier. Total rainfall for the week should add up to less than a third of an inch, on average.  Of course that does not take into account locally heavier rainfall which could occur in specific areas, should popup storms develop. Drier weather should help farmers.  Over the weekend, I heard about at least one farmer in our area whose wheat is sprouting from the heads because of excess rainfall over the past few weeks.

Chances for Severe Storms and Heavy Rainfall AGAIN!

We're looking at ANOTHER chance of showers and storms tonight through Tuesday, along with the possibility AGAIN of locally heavy rainfall over the 48 hour period.

Moisture is again surging into the area, along with low pressure to our west, which will begin moving closer.  The greatest chances for severe storms will lay mostly south of the area tonight, and tomorrow will be mostly from the lakes region eastward.

Greatest risk of severe storms today and tonight are near the Bootheel and NW Tennessee, and southward. Greatest threats: wind, hail.

Greatest risk of severe storms tomorrow run from the lakes region and Pennyrile area, eastward. Main threats: wind, hail.

This is the 5 day forecast for rainfall, ending Saturday morning. Once again, most of the heaviest rainfall should remain to our south, however, these are averages.  Some areas will probably get a LOT more, and some a LOT less. We could still see some places in our area getting upwards of 2 inches for the week.

Remember, when the power's out, you can still hear our forecasts and live reports on Newstalk 94.7, 95.5, 570AM and 1320AM, along with The Mix 94.7 and Willie 102.1.
