UPDATE: Tornadoes, High Winds, Heavy Rain Possible Today

Still very concerned with the risk of severe storms, including tornadoes for our region today. Right now, the greatest threat for strong and long track tornadoes is to our south, but our region is still at risk.   We're also concerned with flooding for our region because of rainfall totals which could tip several inches during this event.


Today: Storms are expected to develop from regenerating storms, capable of producing supercells with large hail and strong tornadoes, and could evolve into bow echoes producing widespread damaging winds.  Right now the greatest risk is to our south and southeast, but we're still in the slight risk catagory.

*Have a plan in place should severe storms develop and approach. Have a plan to seek safe shelter, have cellphones charged and make sure your disaster kit is updated, just in case!

We're also concerned about flooding with rainfall totals throughout this period forecast to total several inches.  A good portion of our region is in the moderate risk category for excessive rainfall.

Chance of Severe Storms Today and Again on Monday!

We're watching a couple of chances for Severe Storms for our region over the next few days.

This afternoon and evening, strong storms could form into a squall line ahead of an approaching cold front.  Right now it looks like the greatest risks are high winds, some hail and perhaps an isolated tornado or two .


Although it's a ways off, we could see a better chance of severe storms over a larger part of the region on Monday, into Monday night as another front approaches. The main concerns for Monday, especially Monday night are supercell storms, with tornadoes and large hail.   This system certainly bears watching, especially the closer we get to it so stay tuned.

Chances for Showers and Storms This Week

Although we have showers and storms in the forecast for the week, at this time, we're not expecting any substantial threat of severe storms.  Most threats of severe weather remain well to our west and south.

We will have a chance for showers and storms tonight, and also Thursday and Thursday night as cold fronts move through.  Temperature wise, our temperatures should run close to normal, or even above normal through the week and into the weekend.

New Tornado Watch until 4 AM

We have a new Tornado Watch until 4AM for all of Western KY and NW Tennessee, along with SE Missouri, including the Bootheel and extreme S Illinois.  We have 2 lines of storms we're watching. One moving in right now, and another squall line further to the west.

Threats include high winds, large hail and possible tornadoes. In fact, we've already had several tornado WARININGS with these storms.  Stay abreast of the latest weather information regarding these storms!

If severe weather approaches, it's best to seek shelter in a storm shelter or basement.  If neither are available, go to the most interior room in your house and cover your head.

Chance of Severe Storms Today Through Friday

Still looking at a slight risk for strong to severe storms especially tonight into Friday for portions of the region.  The main threats will be hail and winds. The good news for our region is that the heavier storms are expected to arrive in this area overnight, when the conditions favorable to severe storm development are diminished.

We could also see some rainfall amounts of more than 1.5 inches before the showers and storms move out Friday night, so watch out for that!

Weekend Forecast!

What a beautiful day Friday! Highs in the low 70s for most of us with plenty of sunshine! Should see a small chance of showers Friday night though, and cooler air moving in on Saturday behind a cold front, dropping our highs about 10 degrees or so, to the upper 50s to near 60.  We'll have another chance for showers Saturday night, followed by cooler air on Sunday again, with highs dropping  to the upper 40s to near 50.
