Updates on Ice and Snow Forecast

The National Weather Service in Paducah says although freezing rain is moving into the area, they don't expect the "freezing line" to move south of the Ohio River before about 5-6PM.

The forecast is also changing, with accumulated snowfall totals going DOWN for Paducah....from the current 4-6 inches....down to an inch to an inch and a half.

The freezing rain at this time, is not expected to reach the KenTenn til late tonight, perhaps even midnight for Murray.

The BAD news is the forecast for ICE accumulation is going up slightly for Paducah, from around .30" of an inch to closer to .50".  This is not a move in the right direction, as above .50" of ice is the threshold where we usually see bigger problems with power outages.

The updated forecast DOES EXPECT to go ABOVE that threshold for the SE and Eastern parts of our area.  From Southern Graves County eastward, and northward to around Princeton.  These could be the most troubling spots for ice damage.

Now, of course, this is ROUND 1.  ROUND 2 will be Saturday night through Sunday and Sunday night.  During this event, not a significant amount of extra precipitation is expected: around .10" ice and perhaps an inch or so of snow, however, whatever falls will probably not melt with temperatures so cold.

There is a slight chance some of the region could get above freezing Sunday, or perhaps some sunshine Saturday could aid in some melting or sublimation to hopefully get some of the snow and ice from round 1 outta the way, before round 2.
