UPDATE: Significant Snowfall And Dangerous COLD This Weekend

Winter Storm Warning Saturday Night-Sunday!

Still tracking a dangerous winter storm this weekend. The main concerns are significant snowfall, followed by possibly the coldest temperatures we've seen in almost 20 years!  A cold front will approach the area with an associated area of low pressure which will trigger rain and snow Saturday night, changing over to snow on Sunday.  Although it's still early, computer model data indicates we could see around 6 to 8 inches inches of snow near the Ohio River(including Paducah) with less to the south and MORE to the north.  Some models indicating more than 10 inches is possible northward in Southern Illinois. Of course, these figures could change upward or downward, depending on how the storm comes together and the timing!

Possible Impacts: Severe travel problems especially Sunday through Wednesday. Possible problems with frozen pipes, wells, car batteries, heating units, danger of hypothermia, frostbite.  BE PREPARED!

Following the frontal passage, brutally COLD ARCTIC AIR will be moving in, with lows near or BELOW ZERO Sunday night.  High temperatures Monday may only be in the single digits to around 10 degrees and lows Monday night could plummet to around ZERO or even BELOW ZERO again.  Wind chills could reach 20 degrees BELOW ZERO. Temperatures this low are too cold for road clearing chemicals to work, such as brine, etc.  That means snowfall will not be melting until temperatures warm up to around freezing, and that might not be until Wednesday or Thursday.
