Radar Screenshots And Pictures From The June 7 Tornadoes/Storms

Here are some interesting pictures and a video from the June 7 storms which affected parts of our region from New Madrid Bend to McKenzie, TN, and also from Graves County, KY to near Murray, KY.  The National Weather Service in Memphis survey and Paducah survey indicated an EF-1 tornado from the New Madrid Bend to Obion County, TN.  Peak winds estimate ranged from 80 to 110 mph.

This storm came together and blew up near the New Madrid Bend in the Mississippi River and then proceeded southeast.  This is a radial velocity screenshot from the NEXRAD radar, showing the opposing directions of the winds closeby, indicating rotation such as in a supercell storm.

This is at the same time, but showing reflectivity, the "notch" in the return indicates inflow into the storm, as the supercell storm rotates.
This is damage from the storm in Obion County, TN, near Shawtown.

This is the radar, showing wind velocity, near Rives, TN, indicating the rotation is still going.

This video comes from storm spotter Chris Conley, from near Union City, TN

This is also wind velocity, as the storm passed just east of Greenfield, TN

This is a picture taken by storm chaser Chris Conley at about the same time and you can see the lowered, rotating "wall cloud" associated with the supercell.

As the storm progressed southeastward, it approached McKenzie, TN

Meanwhile, another storm was producing high winds near Mayfield, KY and then moving toward Murray, KY.

This is a wind velocity shot of the storm approaching Murray. I was concerned about the the small area of green in the bright whitish return, suggesting there could have been a small area of tight rotation in the winds, showing up.

Jill Hudson took this picture just NE of Murray, of the wall cloud.

Jack Henshaw captured this picture near Murray of the corn all blown to one side.

Here is the wind velocity on the radar, as the storm crossed Highway 641 just north of Murray
