Ice Beginning to Cause Problems

Our biggest concern right now is ice freezing on powerlines and tree branches and weighing them down.  Much of the area could see an ice coating of 1/4" to 1/2". Once the amount of ice gets above 1/4" we can begin to have problems with power outages.  We do want to stress though, this event will be nothing at all like the severity of the Ice Storm of 2009.
Near Fulton, KY This Afternoon, 3pm

There's already been a multitude of accidents because of freezing rain, ice patches and water ponding on roadways, leading to slide offs and hydroplaning.  In these conditions always remember to Slow Down! Leave Plenty of Space! and TURN OFF YOUR CRUISE CONTROL! If you have your cruise on, the moment you hit that slick spot of pond of water, you're simply along for the ride.....

This wintry mix should taper off tonight, hopefully without too much more damage, and THEN we'll start taking a closer look at this weekend's potential for more winter weather.  On the bright side, there's only 24 more days until the start of meteorological spring!
